Wheeled Transport on School Grounds: Crucial Safety Reminder

With the warmer weather, it is wonderful to see so many children active and using bikes or scooters to travel to school. However, we must ask for your cooperation in keeping our school grounds safe and accident-free during the busy drop-off and pick-up times.

Please note the following important rules regarding wheeled transport:

  • No Riding on School Property: For the safety of toddlers, parents, and staff navigating the busy playground, children must dismount their bicycles and scooters at the school gates. Please remind your children that they must walk their bikes or scooters once they are inside the school grounds.

  • E-Scooters Are Strictly Prohibited: We would like to remind families that privately owned e-scooters are not permitted on school property under any circumstances. In addition to the legal restrictions regarding their use on public pavements and roads, they pose a significant safety hazard in a crowded school environment.

Thank you for working with us to keep our pathways safe for everyone!

🚨 Important Notice: Road Safety & Considerate Parking

We have received a deeply concerning report from a member of our local community regarding a possible near-miss outside the school earlier this week.

On Tuesday afternoon around 3:20 PM, a young boy on a scooter crossed the end of The Drive alone, without stopping or looking for oncoming traffic. Fortunately, the motorist involved was driving very slowly and was able to react quickly, preventing what could have been a serious accident.

While we are addressing this directly with our students in classes to reinforce vital road safety rules, we urgently need the support of all parents and carers to keep our children safe.

🛑 How You Can Help
  • Talk to your children: Please speak with your children tonight about the dangers of the roads. Remind them to Stop, Look, and Listen, especially if they are on scooters or bikes. They must never assume a driver has seen them or will be able to stop in time.

  • Keep corners clear: The driver noted that their visibility was severely restricted because cars were parked on the double yellow lines on the corner of the junction.

  • Park legally and safely: Parking on double yellow lines or blocking junctions—even for “just a minute” during peak drop-off and pick-up times—puts lives at risk. It creates dangerous blind spots for both drivers and children trying to cross.

Please help us keep all of our students safe by parking responsibly and talking to your children about road awareness.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Reminders

Reporting Pupil Absence

This is a reminder to all parents/carers that the correct way to report absences is to leave a message on the absence line answerphone daily. If messages are sent by email to the admin email address they will not be registered in time for the morning attendance and you may then receive a call from our attendance team.

Supervision

This is a gentle reminder that parents are responsible for supervising their children and siblings on-site before and after school. We have had a couple of incidents reported to us which were considered ‘near misses’ and children could have got hurt. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

KS1 Playground
Please do not allow children to play on the equipment either before/after school. At the end of the day, parents and children should leave the site promptly . This enables us to open up the playground for our other clubs. Thank you.

KS2 Playground
Please note that the day in KS2 does not start until 8:40am when the doors open. Children should not be left unsupervised on the playground before this time. Children should not play on the equipment. Thank you

Parking Concerns Around School

We kindly remind parents and carers that any parking issues in the local area can be reported directly to Chelmsford City Council. This helps ensure concerns are logged correctly and sent straight to the enforcement team.

To report a parking issue:

  1. Visit the Chelmsford City Council website.

  2. Click ‘Parking & Travel’ on the homepage.

  3. Select ‘Parking Restrictions’.

  4. Click ‘Report a Parking Issue’.

Your report will go directly to the council’s Enforcement Team, who will respond to you directly.

Thank you for helping us keep the area around the school safe for all.

OPAL

We are excited to share that we have begun the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) project to enhance the lunchtime experience even furtherfor your children. The aim is to provide more opportunities for creative and active play.

This section of the newsletter will keep you updated on our OPAL journey, including upcoming developments and ways you can get involved.

Also, if you are having a clear-out, please look out for our donation requests for resources to enhance the playground. Your contributions would be greatly appreciated!

Can You Help? Plastic Pallets Needed for OPAL! 🧱✨
Our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) project is going from strength to strength and the children are absolutely loving their enhanced outdoor playtimes! To help us build even more exciting, creative and rugged play structures, we are currently on the lookout for plastic pallets.

Plastic pallets are fantastic for school play because they don’t splinter, they wash down easily and they are incredibly durable for building dens, staging and obstacle courses.

What we need: Clean, sturdy plastic pallets (any size or colour).

If you work for a business that has spares, or if you happen to have any lying around that you could donate, we would be incredibly grateful!

Please contact Mrs Chandler at: dolphin@riversideprimary.co.uk and we can arrange dropping them off.

Thank you so much for your continued support in making our playtimes amazing!
