Reminders

Handheld Fans in School – Safety Reminder

With the hot weather, some children have brought in small handheld battery fans to help keep cool. While these can be useful, we’ve shared some clear rules with the children to make sure they’re used safely and sensibly.

Please note:

  • Hair safety – Long hair must be tied back when using a fan to avoid it getting caught in the blades.
  • When not to use fans – Fans must not be used while sitting on the carpet, lining up, during assemblies, or when children are close together. This is to avoid accidents, distractions, and the risk of fans being too close to other children’s faces or hair.
  • Personal use only – Fans should not be shared and must not be held near other children’s faces or heads.
  • Fans must be clearly named – Please make sure your child’s fan is clearly labelled so it can be easily identified.
  • Charging – Fans must be brought to school fully charged. Charging in school is not allowed.
  • Children may be asked to put them away if they are causing a safety issue or distracting from learning.

Looking ahead, temperatures appear to be cooling slightly into next week, so fans may not be needed for much longer. These are best reserved for days when the weather is excessively hot.

Please note: fans are brought into school at your own risk – we can’t take responsibility for any that are lost or damaged.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep everyone safe and comfortable during warmer weather.

Reporting Pupil Absence

This is a reminder to all parents/carers that the correct way to report absences is to leave a message on the absence line answerphone daily. If messages are sent by email to the admin email address they will not be registered in time for the morning attendance and you may then receive a call from our attendance team.

Supervision

This is a gentle reminder that parents are responsible for supervising their children and siblings on-site before and after school. We have had a couple of incidents reported to us which were considered ‘near misses’ and children could have got hurt. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

KS1 Playground
Please do not allow children to play on the equipment either before/after school. At the end of the day, parents and children should leave the site promptly . This enables us to open up the playground for our other clubs. Thank you.

KS2 Playground
Please note that the day in KS2 does not start until 8:40am when the doors open. Children should not be left unsupervised on the playground before this time. Children should not play on the equipment. Thank you

A Polite Reminder – Scooters and Bikes on the Way to School

We’ve had a few parents share their concerns about younger children riding scooters or small bikes at speed on the way to school, particularly along Ferry Road. In some cases, children are well ahead of their adults, and there’s a real worry that one could accidentally veer into the road before a parent is close enough to intervene.

Please can we kindly ask all families to ensure that children stay close and ride at a safe pace when travelling to and from school. This helps to keep everyone safe – especially near busy roads.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in keeping our school community safe.

OPAL

We are excited to share that we have begun the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) project to enhance the lunchtime experience even furtherfor your children. The aim is to provide more opportunities for creative and active play.

Please keep an eye out for a parent survey that will be sent to you soon. This section of the newsletter will keep you updated on our OPAL journey, including upcoming developments and ways you can get involved.

Also, if you are having a clear-out, please look out for our donation requests for resources to enhance the playground. Your contributions would be greatly appreciated!

As part of our exciting OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) journey, we are continuing to develop a rich and varied outdoor play experience for all our children—whatever the weather!

To help us make the most of our wonderful outdoor spaces even as the weather turns wetter and muddier, we are asking that every child brings a pair of wellies to school from September. These will be kept in school so that children can continue to enjoy outdoor play at lunchtimes and still return to lessons feeling clean, dry, and comfortable.

Thank you for your continued support as we build a happier, healthier, and more active playtime for all our children.

The OPAL Team

Our dedicated Opal and play lead team are looking for resources to expand our children’s lunchtimes.

If you are having a clear out, rather than taking a trip to the tip we can reuse it. With a little imagination, our children can use an old pot and spoon to make the best mud pie anyone has ever seen 🥧 The suitcase that is gathering dust in the loft can transport our children to the moon and back🚀

We are currently looking for the following:
  • Suitcases
  • Pots/pans/spoons/ cooking trays/ old oven racks
  • Old kettles/toasters
  • Milk creates
  • Un used paint brushes
  • Instruments
  • Blankets/cushions/carpet

KS2 have also found a new passion in a good game of pool, so we are looking to expand the amount of children who can play it at any one time by sourcing another pool table.

Calling all local businesses: do you have any large pallets you want to get rid of that we can use as storage? Or any cable wheels we can use as activity tables? We will gladly receive them.

As always, support from parents, carers and the wider community is greatly appreciated in supporting our children’s imaginations 💭☺️

Any donations can be left in the red building foyer or larger items outside the bottle greenhouse.

Thank you from team Opal and the Play Team
